So many diets come our way each day and knowing which one is right for us can be a tough decision. The zone diet might be the right diet for you.
The Zone Diet was developed by Dr. Barry Sears at Boston's University School of Medicine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The zone diet was given its name because it tries to focus on the ideal state of the body and mind. This is a state when the body will fell re-energized and be at a level of high energy and peak performance. The name zone came form a state of mind when athletes felt they performed at there optimal level of success.
After the death of his father in 1970 due to a heart attack Dr. Sears began the study of lipids and the role they play in the development of chronic diseases. Dr. Sears theories were not really tested until 1982 when a Nobel Prize Jury gave a research grant to study the relationship of hormones called eicosanoids and the development of a particular set of diseases that include heart problems, cancer and diabetes.
Dr. Sears finished his research and then wrote a book titled, “Enter the Zone” and it became a international best seller and it appeared on top seller list all over the world. So far the book has sold over 4 million copies. Because of his success Dr. Sears published 10 million more about the same subject.
Critics had difficulty with this diet and feel the theory of this diet do not have much Merritt even though people continue to loose on average 1.5 lbs a week when no other diet has worked for them.
The diet suggest you eat grilled meats and many fruits and vegetables. Dieters may consume a diet of one slice a meat, two thirds fruits and vegetables. The diet is primarily made up of 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein, and 30% fat in the form on mono fats such as fruits and nuts.
You get your carbs through fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Pastas, rice and breads are allowed but only in small portions. Protein is received by the consumption by lean meats and poultry, fish and soy are also excellent sources of protein.
